Fenugreek- weight loss wonder!!
Fenugreek seeds are small, brown and looks like tiny stones. Do not be deceived by its ordinary looks - this spice is loaded with medicinal properties and health benefits. Fenugreek seeds and leaves, also called methi, forms an important ingredient in Indian households. According to some studies fenugreek is said to reduce cholesterol, especially the bad one, LDL. Other health benefits- reduces heart disease, aids digestion, controls blood sugar levels, helps counter heartburn, help in weight loss, remedy for fever and sore throat, helps reduce menstrual discomfort, helps prevent colon cancer, helps soothe skin inflammation and treat skin problems.
Simple braised pea lentil soup-dhall
INGREDIENTS
4 cups approx well boiled split peas (with salt to a smooth soup)
4 tablespoons olive oil
1 small onion sliced
1 small dried or fresh chilli coarsely chopped
2 cloves fresh garlic thinly sliced
1/2 fresk tomato cut into small cubes
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/2 tsp black mustard seeds
1/ tsp fenugreek seeds
METHOD
1. Heat olive oil in a small saucepan.
2. Add onions, garlic and chilli and allow to caramelise until golden brown.
3. Add cumin, mustard seeds and fenugreek and allow it to fry gently for about 20 seconds.
4. Add tomato and salt to taste.
5. Once well cooked add the boiled split pea soup to braised mix.
6. Allow to cook for a few minutes.
7. Garnish with chopped fresh coriander.
8. Enjoy as a soup or as an accompaniment to your favourite curry and rice.
